What Is Aircrete?

Aircrete is created by mixing cement, water and a foaming agent to produce millions of uniformly distributed air bubbles. These microscopic cells give Aircrete its unique combination of lightweight handling, thermal resistance, fire resistance and acoustic performance. As a fire resistant concrete, Aircrete is non-combustible and does not burn, melt or release toxic gases. When combined with FrameForm steel framing, it creates a smarter core for walls, fences, floors and panel cavities.

The Benefits Of Aircrete

A lightweight concrete solution that improves performance without the drawbacks of timber, heavy concrete or traditional wall systems.

How Aircrete Achieves Fire Resistance

Unlike dense mixes that can suffer explosive spalling when trapped moisture turns to steam at high temperatures, Aircrete's cellular structure gives it a naturally low thermal conductivity, so heat travels slowly through the material. As a non-combustible fire resistant concrete it will not burn, melt or release toxic gases, helping walls and panels retain integrity during a fire.

Lightweight

Reduced structural load, transport complexity and installation effort compared with heavier concrete systems.

Thermal Insulation

Millions of air cells help resist heat transfer, improving comfort in both summer and winter.

Acoustic Performance

Absorbs and dampens sound waves to reduce noise transmission through walls, fencing and panels.

Fire Resistant

Non-combustible and inherently fire resistant. Aircrete will not burn, melt or release toxic gases.

Durable & Long Lasting

Resistant to rot, mould, termites and corrosion. Designed to maintain performance for decades.

Sustainable

Made from abundant materials with low embodied energy and strong lifecycle advantages.

Fire Rated Concrete for Bushfire Zones

Aircrete is well suited to construction in bushfire-prone areas, where non-combustible materials help protect the building envelope. When integrated into the FrameForm steel-and-Aircrete composite system, it forms a core designed with fire performance in mind for homes, granny flats and acoustic fencing alike.

Fire Performance FAQ

Is concrete fire resistant? Concrete is non-combustible, and cellular concrete such as Aircrete adds excellent thermal insulation that slows heat transfer through walls and panels.

Does Aircrete release toxic gases in a fire? No. Aircrete will not burn, melt or release toxic gases.

Where is fire resistant concrete useful? In residential homes, multi-residential builds, acoustic fencing and bushfire-prone areas – explore our related bushfire building and acoustic fencing information for more detail.
